If you haven’t stopped by our booth at IEEE yet, you might not have heard about our new mobile apps we’re unveiling this week. Apps are currently available in the iTunes App Store for iPhone and iPad, and all are designed to give linemen, agents, and engineers the information they need, when and where they need it.

Learn more about these apps here or below:

Partial Reel Calculator: estimate the footage of wire or cable that is left on a reel. Preloaded with many cables and reels. Build your own favorite cables and reels for convenience.

Voltage Drop Calculator: determine the proper wire size for an electrical circuit based on the voltage drop and current carrying capacity of an electrical circuit.

Proof Positive Copper: track your stolen wire. After Proof Positive® Copper has been stolen, enter the license key and serial number from the recovered wire to display ownership information.

Conduit Fill Calculator: Southwire has created this tool to help engineers answer the question, “What size conduit do I use” per the NEC®, includes fill percentages and jam probability.

Many utilities are faced with aging, crowded ducts in urban areas and struggle with how to meet today’s power requirements without incurring massive new infrastructure costs. Southwire has a solution: DensFlex MV.

DensFlex MV (more on that here) is a compact conductor designed for small, cramped duct spaces. The Southwire booth was busy all day with attendees from all over the world stopping by to learn about our Transmission, Substation, Distribution, and Renewable solutions. One popular area was our “App-titude” demo area. Attendees lined up to try out Southwire’s mobile apps for iPhone and iPad (more information and links to download these Apps available here).

Outside our booth, other exhibitors had a lot going on as well. Lots of equipment, models, demonstrations, and even artists-in-residence hard at work. We’re looking forward to Day 2!
